Yellow is for the gold and the richness of my land.

Blue, for the two oceans that bathe it’s shores.

Red for the blood, the blood spilled to give us freedom.

I see my home wherever I go, I see it in the colours,

I see it in the sea and the wind. I long so much my home

that I see it in the flowers, even those that are strange to my eyes.

This is to Colombia, my home.

Yellow, Blue and Red it’s a photographic multi image project that expresses how much I miss my home country, Colombia, using flowers new to me, but very common in the UK, that match the colours of the Colombian flag. The flowers were photographed in controlled light and posed in front of same colour backdrops to generate a visual and meaning mix between the flowers and each colour of the Colombian flag.

The intercultural approach of this piece speaks both in the languages of Colombia and United Kingdom as it contains elements from both cultures, expressing how I constructed and present my cultural identity with the things available to me, and how they nurture my being, as the result of how living in a foreign country changed my perspective about the world, my own country and myself without losing my identity.

I can say Yellow, Blue and Red, is my reflection in the mirror: a young Colombian photographer that loves nature and bright colours, who lived in United Kingdom during a year and now it’s taking a bit of it’s culture in her heart, letting it melt with her own, feeling a little british too.
